VoxAI to Blockbench

Create Minecraft resource packs, mods, and custom entity models using AI-generated voxel art from VoxAI.

What is Blockbench?

Blockbench is a free, modern 3D model editor designed specifically for creating Minecraft models. It's the industry standard for:

  • Resource Packs: Custom blocks, items, and GUI elements
  • Entity Models: Custom mobs, armor, and players
  • Modding: Assets for Forge, Fabric, and Bedrock mods

Prerequisites

1. Install Blockbench

Download Blockbench from blockbench.net (free for Windows, Mac, Linux, and Web).

2. Prepare Your VoxAI Model

Generate or select your model in VoxAI. For Minecraft, we recommend re-voxelizing at 0.035-0.036 cube size for optimal results.

⚠️ Critical: Cube Size for Minecraft

Minecraft has specific model size limits. Before exporting:

  1. 1Open your model in VoxAI's View Voxel section
  2. 2Click Re-voxelize
  3. 3Set cube size to 0.035 or 0.036
  4. 4Generate and then export

This costs only 1 credit and ensures your model fits Minecraft's size constraints.

Step 1: Export from VoxAI

1

Open View Voxel

Navigate to your model in the View Voxel section.

2

Click Download

Look for the download button on your model.

3

Select .json Format

This is the Blockbench-compatible format. The file will download with your model's name.

Step 2: Import to Blockbench

1

Open Blockbench

Launch the Blockbench application or use the web version.

2

Create or Open a Project

Start a new project (Java Block/Item, Bedrock, etc.) or open an existing one.

3

Import the Model

Go to File → Import → Add External Model and select your .json file from VoxAI.

4

Adjust & Refine

Scale, position, and make any manual adjustments needed for your use case.

Common Use Cases

🗡️ Custom Items

Create unique swords, tools, and items for resource packs.

Tip: Use VoxAI's 45° trick for sharp blades!

🧱 Custom Blocks

Design decorative blocks and furniture for builds.

Tip: Keep cube size consistent for block patterns.

👾 Entity Models

Create custom mobs and NPCs for mods.

Tip: Generate characters in VoxAI, rig in Blockbench.

🛡️ Armor & Accessories

Design custom armor sets and cosmetics.

Tip: Use separate VoxAI generations for each piece.

Tips & Best Practices

📐 Size Matters

Minecraft Java Edition allows models up to 48×48×48 units. Re-voxelizing at 0.035-0.036 helps stay within these limits while maintaining detail.

🎨 UV Mapping

VoxAI exports include textures, but you may need to adjust UVs in Blockbench for optimal Minecraft rendering.

⚡ Performance

Larger cube sizes (fewer voxels) = better performance in Minecraft. Balance detail vs. performance for your use case.

Troubleshooting

Model too large in Blockbench?

Go back to VoxAI and re-voxelize with a larger cube size (0.04-0.05). This reduces the voxel count and overall model size.

Textures not showing correctly?

Try downloading the .glb format from VoxAI as an alternative. You can convert GLB to JSON using Blockbench's import/export features.

Import fails or corrupted model?

Ensure you're using the latest version of Blockbench. Also try importing with a fresh Blockbench project.
