Export Formats
VoxAI supports native voxel exports plus converted mesh formats (FBX, OBJ) from View Voxel—compatible with major editors, engines, and 3D software.
How to Export (View Voxel)
FBX and OBJ are not separate preview tabs. You preview Voxel or GLB, then download native files or run a conversion from the download buttons.
- Open View Voxel and select your completed model.
- Use the format tabs on the viewer to preview
VOXorGLB. - In the download section, pick a native button (instant) or a converted button (FBX, OBJ, or GLB-from-VOX).
- For converted downloads, keep the tab open until the file downloads—conversion runs on our servers and may take a moment.
Download buttons by tab
- • VOX tab: VOX, Minecraft (.zip), GLB, FBX, OBJ (ZIP)
- • GLB tab: GLB, FBX, OBJ + textures (ZIP)
Downloads are free and unlimited after generation. Only initial 3D generation and re-voxelization spend credits.
Native Formats
Instant download—no conversion step.
MagicaVoxel Format
Native voxel data for MagicaVoxel. Also available on the VOX tab: Minecraft (.zip) for Blockbench workflows. Best source for re-voxelization.
Blockbench / Minecraft
Blockbench-compatible export (often via Minecraft .zip on the VOX tab). Ideal for resource packs and Java/Bedrock mods.
glTF Binary (Recommended for Games)
Direct download on the GLB tab. Materials and textures in one file. You can also convert to GLB from the VOX tab if you started from voxel preview.
Converted Mesh Formats
On-demand conversion from VOX or GLB preview. Not separate viewer tabs.
Autodesk FBX
Single .fbx file, converted from either the VOX or GLB tab. Common for Maya, 3ds Max, and FBX-first game pipelines (including legacy Unreal workflows).
Wavefront OBJ (ZIP)
Delivered as a ZIP archive—unzip before importing. From the GLB tab the download is labeled OBJ + textures (ZIP); from the VOX tab you get an OBJ ZIP converted from voxel data. Works in Blender, Maya, 3ds Max, and many slicers for 3D printing.
Which Format Should I Use?
| Use Case | Recommended Format |
|---|---|
| Minecraft mods & resource packs | .json / Minecraft .zip |
| Further voxel editing in MagicaVoxel | .vox |
| Unity, Godot, UE5 (glTF-friendly) | .glb |
| Unreal / DCC requiring FBX | FBX (converted download) |
| Blender with bundled textures | .glb or OBJ ZIP |
| 3D printing | OBJ ZIP |
| Web-based 3D (Three.js, Babylon) | .glb |
| Not sure / General purpose | .glb |
Platform-Specific Tips
🎮 Minecraft / Blockbench
- • Use .json / Minecraft .zip from the VOX tab
- • Re-voxelize at 0.035–0.036 cube size for optimal sizing
🔮 MagicaVoxel
- • Download .vox from the VOX tab
- • Preserves individual voxel colors for further editing
🎯 Unity
- • Prefer .glb—drag into Assets
- • FBX converted download works if your pipeline requires it
🎬 Unreal Engine
- • UE5: import .glb directly
- • UE4 / FBX workflows: download FBX from VOX or GLB tab
🎨 Blender
- • GLB: File → Import → glTF 2.0
- • FBX: File → Import → FBX
- • OBJ: unzip the archive, then File → Import → Wavefront (.obj)
Before Re-voxelizing
Re-voxelization can change mesh appearance. Download your GLB, FBX, and OBJ exports first if you need to keep the current look. VOX re-voxelizes most reliably—see Re-voxelize.
Pro Tip: Download Multiple Formats
For important models, download .vox plus the mesh formats you need. Conversions do not cost extra credits—only generation and re-voxelization do.
