VoxAI to Blender

Import AI-generated voxel models into Blender for professional 3D workโ€”modeling, rigging, animation, and stunning renders.

Why Blender + VoxAI?

Blender is the industry-standard free 3D software. Combined with VoxAI, you get:

๐ŸŽฌ Animation

Rig and animate VoxAI characters for games or film.

โœจ Professional Renders

Create stunning images with Cycles or Eevee rendering.

๐Ÿ”ง Mesh Editing

Modify, optimize, or enhance VoxAI models.

๐Ÿ“ฆ Export Anywhere

Re-export to any format for any platform.

Which Format to Use

FormatBest ForIncludes
.glbMost workflowsMesh + Materials + Textures (single file)
.objHeavy editing, 3D printingMesh only (separate .mtl for materials)
.voxVia MagicaVoxel firstNative voxel data

๐Ÿ’ก Recommendation: Use .glb for most cases. It's the most convenient format with everything bundled together.

Importing to Blender

1

Export from VoxAI

Download your model as .glb (recommended) or .obj from View Voxel.

2

Open Blender

Create a new project or open an existing one. Delete the default cube if needed.

3

Import the File

Go to File โ†’ Import โ†’ glTF 2.0 (.glb/.gltf) and select your file.

For .obj: File โ†’ Import โ†’ Wavefront (.obj)

4

Your Model is Ready!

The model imports with materials and textures. Scale and position as needed.

Common Workflows

๐Ÿฆด Rigging for Animation

  1. 1Import your VoxAI character model
  2. 2Add an Armature (Add โ†’ Armature)
  3. 3Position bones for arms, legs, spine, head
  4. 4Parent mesh to armature with automatic weights
  5. 5Test and adjust weight painting as needed

๐Ÿ’ก Tip: VoxAI's blocky style works great with simple rigsโ€”you don't need complex deformation.

๐Ÿ“ธ Portfolio Renders

  1. 1Export from VoxAI at maximum detail (0.022 cube size)
  2. 2Import to Blender
  3. 3Set up a 3-point lighting setup or use an HDRI
  4. 4Switch to Cycles for photorealistic rendering
  5. 5Render at high resolution (2K-4K)

๐ŸŽฎ Game Asset Optimization

  1. 1Re-voxelize in VoxAI at target cube size first
  2. 2Import to Blender
  3. 3Use Decimate modifier if further optimization needed
  4. 4Bake textures to single atlas if combining multiple models
  5. 5Export as .glb or FBX for game engines

Rendering Tips

๐ŸŒ… Use HDRI Lighting

Download free HDRIs from Poly Haven. Go to World Properties โ†’ Surface โ†’ Color โ†’ Environment Texture.

๐ŸŽจ Enhance Materials

VoxAI materials are basic. Add roughness variation, emission for glow effects, or subsurface for organic looks.

๐Ÿ“ Perfect Pixel Look

For crisp voxel edges: In Render Properties, disable motion blur and set Film โ†’ Filter Size to 0.01.

โšก Eevee for Speed

Use Eevee for fast real-time rendering. Enable Ambient Occlusion and Screen Space Reflections for better quality.

Troubleshooting

Model appears black or without textures?

Make sure you're in Material Preview or Rendered mode (press Z for menu). Check that textures are linked in the Shader Editor.

Model is too small or large?

Scale the model with S key. Apply scale with Ctrl+A โ†’ Scale before rigging or animating.

GLB import fails?

Make sure you're using Blender 2.8 or newer. Try downloading the .obj format as an alternative.

Render looks flat?

Add better lighting! Use a 3-point setup or HDRI. Enable Ambient Occlusion in Render Properties.
